Guwahati: In a major development, the Assam Police on Wednesday night apprehended a person for allegedly running the Jami-ul- Huda Madrassa in the state's Morigaon district.

The nabbed persons have been identified as Mufti Mustafa who is reportedly the head of Jamiulhuda Madrassa in Moribari.

As per reports, a team of state police carried out a search operation at the Madrassa and other residences in Moribari on Wednesday night and nabbed him.

The police have also seized several documents including a bank passbook and mobile phones from Mustafa's possession.

It has also come to the fore that Mustafa was in close contact with Amiruddin Ansari of the Bangladesh-based Ansarullah Bangla Team.

Meanwhile, speaking on the same, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta asserted that the militant organizations are gradually trying to target Assam.

''They are trying to provoke Muslim youths of the state by entering the state via Bangladesh,'' he added.
